Description
*** ONE OF THE FAMOUS RACING LODGES OF THE CURRAGH ****
A fine manor house with c. 6,800 sq.ft. (632 sq.m.) of accommodation, recently upgraded
and decorated, in excellent condition with many fine features and well proportioned rooms,
in a wonderful mature timbered setting on c. 6 Acres of gardens and grounds.
DUBLIN 50KM • NAAS 17KM • KILCULLEN 5KM • M7 4½KM
Ballysax Manor, one of the famous racing lodges of the Curragh originally dating from the late 1700s, accidentally burnt in the 1900s and duly rebuilt at that time. The present owners have carried out extensive and recent renovation works which leaves it in first class condition throughout.
It is situated in the heart of the bloodstock industry just off the Curragh Plains with its 4,500 acres of Heath land and the Headquarters of Irish Racing.
Ballysax Manor is associated with D.L. Moore who moved from the Old Fairyhouse Stud to Ballysax in the mid 60s and for decades consistently achieved major racecourse triumphants from his new base.
His most famous winner was L’Escargot’s Gold Cup Double in 1970 and 1971, Inslinger’s memorable Champion Chase and Cathcart Cup double in 1973 and Tied Cottage’s victory in the Sun Alliance Chase in 1976 at Cheltenham followed up by his front running but tragically forfeited “win” in the Gold Cup in 1980. Situated a short distance off the Athy/Kilcullen Road it is only 4½ km from the recently upgraded M9 giving direct access to Dublin City and its International Airport, whilst the M7 is only 10 km (Ballymany Interchange) at the Curragh Racecourse.
Ballysax Manor is set on an elevated site in a wonderful mature timbered setting surrounded by many beech trees with a southerly aspect.
The accommodation comprises approximately 6,800 sq.ft. of spacious well proportioned rooms with high ceilings. It is well laid out and in excellent condition throughout having recently been upgraded to include re-roofing, re-wiring, re-plumbing, window replacement, re-rendering and adding some small extensions where necessary.
